Exceptional Women and the Pets Who Love Them

In honor of International Women’s Day, Friday, March 8, we thought we’d bring you a list of some of the phenomenal women of our time who also happened to make pets a big priority in their productive lives.

We hope you will recognize and thank some of the exceptional women in your life today and every day all year long. We at Run Those Dogs definitely want to recognize the hard working women on our staff that reliably exercise and care for our clients when their pet parents are busy or traveling.

Did we leave anyone out? Share more exceptional women in the comments section of this post!

Oprah Winfrey & Her Many Dogs

If you’ve followed Oprah on her 30-year journey from newscaster to International Media Mogul, it will be no surprise to you that she loves her fur babies almost as much as Stedman. Not only does she take them everywhere she goes, but she also hosts extravagant birthday parties for them.

Megan Leavey & Rex

We recently blogged about the film Megan Leavey, the heartbreaking true story of a military combat dog, Rex, and the young marine corporal, Megan Leavey (played by Kate Mara) whose unique discipline and bond with Rex saved many lives during their deployment in Iraq. Leavey identifies with a particularly aggressive dog, Rex, and is given the chance to train him. Over the course of their service, Megan and Rex completed more than 100 missions until an IED explosion injures them, putting their fate in jeopardy.
Bring the tissues to this wonderful film about their special bond and service to our country.

Holistic Veterinarian Dr. Judy Morgan

Based in southern New Jersey, Dr. Morgan currently operates two veterinary hospitals that offer an integrative approach combining holistic medicine with traditional Western techniques. Holistic practices such as chiropractic, acupuncture, food therapy, and herbal therapy, are used alongside conventional medicine to provide a full range of veterinary treatment.

Outside of the office Dr. Morgan spends much of her time working with Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and English Toy Spaniel rescue groups by assisting in finding, transporting, and fostering neglected animals. She is Chief Veterinary Medical Officer for Monkey’s House dog hospice and senior sanctuary.

She is a best-selling author of four books, hundreds of online and print magazine articles, and hosts her own Naturally Healthy Pets radio show on DreamVisions7 Radio network. Her goal is to change the lives of over ten million pets by educating and empowering pet owners worldwide. She is a champion in the use of natural healing therapies, minimizing the use of chemicals, vaccinations, and poor quality processed food.

Gwen Stefani & Pomeranian Winston

The international singing superstar is also a pet lover. In 2015 she launched a dog clothing line at Petco Stores called Harajuku Lovers. It included toys, fashion accessories and apparel. That brand has expanded well beyond the pet industry with an array of items now on Amazon.

DeeDee Baker & Dog Tag Buddies

DeeDe Baker, a longtime leader of the International Association of Workforce Professionals (IAWP) was recognized as one of Montana’s 20 Exceptional Women in 2017 for founding the nonprofit organization Dog Tag Buddies after her husband was diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury and post-traumatic stress disorder following an 18-month deployment to Iraq in 2005.

This charity is dedicated to providing veterans with hidden injuries opportunities to lead more fulfilling lives. They provide no-cost services in the adoption and training of rescued dogs to become emotional support animals or service dogs depending on the needs of the individual veteran.

For years, Run Those Dogs has offered a 10% discount to active duty military and reservists as a way to say thank you for your service.

There are so many incredible women making a difference in the pet industry and around the world. Please be sure to recognize and thank some of them in your life today and every day all year long.
